The Basement
At first, Diane refused to leave the basement. Spending most of her time watching movies, she only ate food she stole from the kitchen late at night. Necessarily, her parents broke the lease on Diane’s apartment and moved her belongings to their house for her. Eventually, Diane emerged from the basement to socialize wither parents, contributing to the household by assisting Pam with chores and cooking, but still refused to leave the house for any reason. This went on for several months. The situation put considerable pressure on Pam and Robert’s marriage and romantic life. Tensions erupted one evening when Pam and Robert insisted that Diane move out and start again with a new job, new classes, and a new apartment. The offered to provide as much financial support as she needed. Diane refused to budge, and fled to the basement again. To save their relationship, Pam and Robert moved out and left the house to Diane. Diane waved to them from behind a closed window, unable to enter the driveway or even step out onto the porch to see them off.
