Primary Investigator (PI)
The Primary Investigator is the world's premier scholar in teletherapy and anticipatory control systems. He has compiled a number of degrees at the prestigious Baytown University (including an MD and Ph.D.s in Psychology and Neuroscience). Teletherapy, primarily used to reach rural areas, provides access to care to those who need therapy in towns that cannot maintain their own therapist. The PI’s research in teletherapy has demonstrated how therapy performed through video conferencing can greatly benefit those unable or unwilling to make the long trip to an urban area with a therapist. His research on anticipatory control systems has revealed how peoples' reactions to different stimuli can be used to modify their behavior. More specifically, by predicting a patient’s actions to various stimuli one can modify the behavior of a patient by controlling the stimuli received. This groundbreaking research has lead to significant leaps; pushing the boundaries of what is thought impossible. The recognition for the PI’s work can only be dwarfed by what his future contributions to science are guaranteed to bring forth. His teletherapy experience is what brought him in contact with Diane - whom he is now dedicated to studying under a number of research grants. With unprecedented potential as a controlled research environment set in the real world, this unique situation promises to unlock the mysteries behind mental disease, and propel scientific breakthroughs.
Sector 16 Team Members:
Behavior Evaluation Systems Specialist (BESS)
The Behavior Evaluation Systems Specialist received her medical degree from the University of Rochester and is board certified in general psychiatry. Prior to joining the team at Sector 16, she spent several years working with adolescents and young adults at Spectrum Youth and Family Services in Burlington, VT, evaluating and treating those patients who required medication for depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. At Sector 16, BESS oversees all budgetary aspects of its various projects. She considers her most important and rewarding duty at Sector 16 to be the development of exercises and questions for therapy sessions, and is particularly interested in designing interview experiences that elicit strong emotional reactions to seemingly innocuous prompts for the purpose of identifying specific psychiatric triggers. Her passions include gardening, judo, Elizabethan drama, and the writings of Michel Foucault.
Video Surveillance and Audio Technician (VSAT)
The Video Surveillance and Audio Technician for Sector 16 is responsible for setting up and maintaining all surveillance equipment, as well as planning and supervising audio recording and transcription. He is also the general technical manger at Sector 16, in charge of assessing and purchasing all equipment required for the monitoring of patient activity. The VSAT holds a BFA in Photography with a minor in Political Science from UNLV. He worked briefly as a surveillance technician at several prominent Las Vegas casinos before relocating to Phoenix for reasons he prefers not to disclose. He also enjoys trout fishing, rock music, science fiction novels, and James Bond movies. He hopes to go into orbit someday.
Manager of Environmental Operations (MEO)
As a former Manager of Video Board Operations Assistant and Assistant Director to Television Broadcasts for various organizations, the MEO is interested developing environments that simulate real life. As a part of the Sector 16 team, the MEO develops and manages the simulated lab environments created at Sector 16 to make patients feel as if they are in their natural setting, despite the fact that they are in a lab. The MEO is invested in interpersonal relationships and appreciates studying humans for the sake of humanity in the presence of her brilliant mentor, the Primary Investigator. Apart from her work at Sector 16, the MEO enjoys the occasional touch football game, Guitar Hero, and sleeping in.
Video Archivist / Data Visualization Editor (VADVE)
The Video Archivist and Data Visualization Editor manages video data collection both within subject environments and the Sector 16 laboratory. He oversees the logistics of recording, cataloging, and storing the vast quantities of video recorded by the hidden cameras. In addition, he works with the Primary Investigator and other Sector 16 researchers to produce data visualizations that reveal the workings of the subject's psyche. Before joining Sector 16, VADVE worked as a technical director for a reality television program, and held various positions in the security and surveillance field.
Graduate Student Interns:
Specialized Psychiatrist with an Emphasis in Social Trauma (SPeST)
The Specialized Psychiatrist with an emphasis in Social Effects on the Inner Psyche is working toward her Ph.D. from the Stanford Mood and Anxiety Disorders Laboratory. During her studies, her primary focus was in social anxiety and social phobias. Her responsibilities at Sector 16 consist of monitoring the subjects’ online activity and studying the patients' methods of coping with perceived threats. Prior to Sector 16, the SPeST worked briefly as a clinical psychologist with different celebrities in Los Angles. Aside from her work, she enjoys knitting, challenging puzzles, blogging, her rock collection, and laughing.
Specialized Psychiatrist with an Emphasis in Stochastic Emotional Management (SPeSEM)
The Specialized Psychiatrist with an emphasis in Stochastic Emotional Management is working toward his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Waterloo in Canada. Due to the high comorbidity between substance abuse and emotional management he then became interested in the effects of nutrition on the mind. This interest led him to receive his degree as a dietitian. Due to his specialties in emotional management and nutrition, the SPESEM 1. monitors and supplies all patients' dietary needs and 2. diagnoses rage and outbursts triggers in IED patients. Away from his profession, the SPESEM has interests in cooking, photography, antiquing, and caring for his pet bullfrog Dale.
Specialized Psychiatrist with an Emphasis in Mind/Body Detachment (SPeMD)
The Specialized Psychiatrist with an Emphasis in Mind/Body Detachment is currently completing her Ph.D. in psychiatry at Pepper Dine University. With her focus in Dissociation Disorder, the SPeMD interest led her to her internship with Sector 16. The SPeMD specifically documents and analyzes Diane’s interactions with her imaginary friend as well as her constant self-observations the mirror. Both of which are symptoms of Diane’s dissociation disorder (DD). Away from her profession, the SPeMD entertains her interests in growing chia pets, pog collecting, vaulting, and occasional badminton.
